LABORATORY AND FIELD PROFICIENCIES

Microscope Techniques
​

Students were required to create a heat-fixed gram's stain on a ubiquitous microbe in microbiology laboratory (BIO 1131-02). Upon heat-fixing the bacteria, students were required to identify whether the stain was gram's positive or gram's negative using bright-field microscopy.

Field Sampling
​

Students performed crude extraction of caffeine from tea leaf via solute-solvent-dependent methods for organic chemistry laboratory (CHE 2126-01).

Electrophoresis
​

Students performed gel electrophoresis of native and denatured proteins in cell biology laboratory (BIO 4164-01).

Spectrophometry

Students analyzed application of Beer's Law by determining the absorbance spectrum of a prepared solution of standard cobalt (II) nitrate for general chemistry II (CHE 2112-01).
